Mission Statement and History
Washington Union Educational Foundation (WUEF) was formed in 1984 to raise money to pay for educational programs placed at risk due to ongoing state education budget cuts. Among others, these programs include art, music, technology, science and history assemblies, and educational field trips - all critical to a well-rounded education. Over the years, state funding has continued to near extinction in our school district. WUEF continues to raise approximately $200,000/year to ensure these programs continue to support our children’s education. Focusing on programs such as art, music and technology. These programs touch 100% of the 770 children in the Washington Union School District in Salinas, California. WUEF raises the necessary funds through family donations, grants, matching funds, community business sponsorships, auction events, social events, and other fundraisers throughout the year.
Our mission is to provide the financial support necessary to facilitate broad learning opportunities supportive of the educational mission of the school district. Ensuring children are exposed to a well-rounded education, inclusive of art and music, contributes to student development of self-concept, expression, self-confidence and ultimately academic and interpersonal success.
WUEF strives to build a coalition of parents, educators and community partners focused on the education and development of the whole student. Learning in a multi-faceted environment encourages individual exploration of talents and passions resulting in the creation of our future exemplary community leaders.
