Mission Statement and History

History
Washington Union Educational Foundation (WUEF) was formed in 1984 to raise money to pay for educational programs placed at risk due to ongoing state education budget cuts. Among others, these programs include art, music, technology, science and history assemblies, and educational field trips - all critical to a well-rounded education. Over the years, state funding has continued to near extinction in our school district. WUEF continues to raise approximately $140,000/year to ensure these programs continue to support our children’s education. Focusing on programs such as art, music and technology. These programs reach 100% of the 725 children in the Washington Union School District in Salinas, California. WUEF raises the necessary funds through family donations, grants, matching funds, community business sponsorships, auction events, social events, and other fundraisers throughout the year.

Mission Statement
Washington Union Educational Foundation works to enhance and enrich the educational opportunities for all students within the Washington Union School District. We champion the importance and impact of these opportunities through programming and grants to support the development of student expression, creativity, and self-confidence.

Values

WUEF strives to build a coalition of parents, educators and community partners focused on the education and development of the whole student. Learning in a multi-faceted environment encourages individual exploration of talents and passions, resulting in the creation of our future exemplary community leaders.
