San Benancio Middle School Athletics
San Benancio students may be involved in a variety of after-school team and individual sports. These sports include soccer, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf and track and field. Students in the 7th and 8th grade participate in the Mission Trails Junior Athletic League. This league is comprised of middle schools from the Monterey Peninsula and the Salinas area. Sixth-grade students participate in the Salinas Recreational League.

We emphasize sportsmanship and fair play at San Benancio. Winning is secondary. Students and coaches are expected to demonstrate that sportsmanship comes first. Students are taught athletic skills and given opportunities to practice those skills during the sanctioned activities. We keep the level of play in perspective...this is middle school, not professional level athletics. Parents are expected to be supportive and encouraging to all players and coaches.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer as coaches. As with any school volunteer, certain requirements (T.B. test, fingerprint check, etc.) must be met for the protection of the students. Anyone interested in coaching is encouraged to contact Athletic Director, Phillip Snell at psnell@washingtonusd.org, for more information.
